The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Trevor Keegan, pick 202, roughly 58 picks past where he belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The Colson pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots still on the board. Reaching for Reed left real value on the table behind him. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Cooper DeJean at No. 25 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Edgerrin Cooper at the 44th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 2 slot on Junior Colson with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots unsolved.
They paid sticker price for Dominick Puni in slot 88, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Cole Bishop at the 91st pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They read the board right and Matt Goncalves was the payoff at pick No. 126. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Isaiah Davis in Round 5, Pick 33. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Trevor Keegan reach pick 202 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Evan Williams at pick 219 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
No edge and no loss on Jalen Sundell in slot 245; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Austin Reed at Round 7, Pick 35 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
