Somebody took the Cowboys to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Put together, it is a D.
They will need Barron to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They will answer for taking safety early while cornerback and tight end went begging. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 19th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 26th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid a round early for Nic Anderson in slot 46, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Danny Stutsman went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 26. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had cheaper options than Trevor Etienne at pick No. 62, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
A reach on Nicholas Singleton in pick 78; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached into another round for Shemar Turner, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Shilo Sanders at No. 83 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A conviction pick on Smael Mondon Jr. at the 90th pick that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Wyatt Milum at pick 92 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Jahdae Barron in pick No. 122 leaves cornerback and tight end for later.
Alfred Collins at the Round 5 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They let Will Howard come to them and pounced at slot 179. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Colbie Young. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
