The Packers torched the value chart for Tanor Bortolini, taking him 63 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The Schrader value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. It is not that Oladapo is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at a price that makes it sweeter.
A reach on Kris Jenkins in Round 2, Pick 10; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Junior Colson in pick No. 58. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Good price on Calen Bullock in No. 88, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No drama and no debate, Christian Mahogany went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A surprising call. With wide receiver, tight end and other spots still to address, they spent pick 123 on Kitan Oladapo, a safety they were not short of.
They talked themselves into Tanor Bortolini at pick No. 126, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board fumbled Chau Smith-Wade all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A conviction pick on Garret Greenfield at No. 202 that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Circle this one: Cody Schrader at slot 219 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Frank Gore Jr. at the 245th pick is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Austin Reed at pick 255 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
