When the story of this class is written, it opens with Kendall Milton at the Round 6 slot, a reach of 32 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
On value alone, Nourzad makes the weekend a net positive. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
They read the board right and Amarius Mims was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 3. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kris Jenkins at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ruke Orhorhoro in pick 64. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Cooper Beebe at No. 70 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kris Abrams-Draine in slot 71, miles early. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No drama and no debate, Ben Sinnott went about where he belonged in the 95th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value said wait; Johnny Wilson in slot 98 says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Brandon Coleman at the 104th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach for Cedric Gray in No. 107; a little patience would have been rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Hunter Nourzad in the 131st pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Cornelius Johnson at pick 159 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Dominique Hampton enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 5, Pick 37. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They paid sticker price for Ryan Flournoy in pick No. 196, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kendall Milton at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
