The Chiefs went off the board in a big way for Tommy Eichenberg, 36 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
They banked enough surplus on Oladapo to cover a lot of smaller sins. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Amarius Mims in No. 19; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in slot 37 is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board had Adisa Isaac higher than the Round 2 slot, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A quiet steal in pick No. 69: Christian Haynes for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Johnny Wilson this early at pick 95. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Ben Sinnott went about where he belonged in the 99th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tommy Eichenberg at pick No. 110 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They read the board right and Hunter Nourzad was the payoff at pick 131. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kitan Oladapo in the Round 5 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Cornelius Johnson at the 173rd pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kendall Milton well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
