When the story of this class is written, it opens with Logan Lee at the Round 6 slot, a reach of 33 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
That Oladapo pick is the receipt they will wave around later. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, Darius Robinson at Round 2, Pick 5 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy bit of business in the 51st pick, where Ennis Rakestraw Jr. graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Nice patience on Malachi Corley, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nothing to complain about; Cooper Beebe went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Ben Sinnott at par in No. 95, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A wild overpay on Johnny Wilson in slot 99, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid a round early for Cedric Gray in the Round 4 slot, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They let Mekhi Wingo come to them and pounced at the 110th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Hunter Nourzad at pick No. 131 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kitan Oladapo is a better player than Round 5, Pick 23 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Cornelius Johnson slid further than he should have, and the 173rd pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached into another round for Logan Lee, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kendall Milton at No. 213 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
