You could see the war room lean forward. Nehemiah Pritchett at No. 184 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
The Jake Ferguson pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Nate Wiggins at pick No. 48 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Good price on Braden Fiske in Round 2, Pick 30, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kamren Kinchens in No. 69 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Patrick Paul in slot 87 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Gabriel Murphy in pick 93; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Brenden Rice at the 96th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mekhi Wingo. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Matt Goncalves at the 114th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Kitan Oladapo at par in No. 153, which is nothing to complain about. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They barely believed it either: Nehemiah Pritchett still on the board at pick 184. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Ty'Ron Hopper slipping to the 198th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Drake Nugent in the 218th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Josh Proctor at Round 7, Pick 21, value and slot in agreement. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
