Somebody in Round 7, Pick 21 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Dolphins sat still while Tahj Washington, the No. 188 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Every board in the league had Robinson lower, and that gap is the story. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Sedrick Van Pran at Round 2, Pick 26 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
Layden Robinson in pick 126 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Javion Cohen in No. 158 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A real head-scratcher, Evan Williams in the Round 6 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Kamal Hadden at pick No. 198 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Garret Greenfield in the 219th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Tahj Washington in slot 241 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Donovan Jennings in No. 245 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
