The Patriots torched the value chart for Dominick Puni, taking him 67 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
Drake Maye gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Estime.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
They reached into another round for Dominick Puni, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
They let Edgerrin Cooper come to them and pounced at the 68th overall pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Ray Davis at the 104th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Audric Estime in No. 136 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Javon Baker. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
