Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Sione Vaki, the No. 158 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 6, Pick 27.
The McCaffrey pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jordan Morgan at Round 2, Pick 9 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Adonai Mitchell in the 58th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
T.J. Tampa at slot 88 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A quiet steal in pick 91: Renardo Green for less than the market said. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Luke McCaffrey. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Jaylin Simpson in No. 169, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Sione Vaki was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
You do not let a wide receiver like Cornelius Johnson reach slot 219 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
Circle this one: Myles Harden at Round 7, Pick 25 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Evan Williams at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
