Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins land in the muddy middle: C+.

2024 NFL Draft
· 6 picks
· 3 steals
· 2 reaches
The Dolphins did not so much draft Drake Nugent as overpay for him, 52 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Cowing. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. They went 2 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
So much rides on Troy Fautanu that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 21 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Christian Mahogany at Round 2, Pick 23 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value said wait; Drake Nugent in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jacob Cowing at pick No. 184 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board had Johnny Dixon higher than No. 198, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Taking Evan Williams in pick 241 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
