This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Trey Benson, the No. 68 name on the board, stolen at the Round 3 slot. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Barrett pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A reasonable price with a little left over, Xavier Legette in the Round 2 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in pick 47, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Edgerrin Cooper in the 60th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Trey Benson at slot 87 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Khyree Jackson in No. 99 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They jumped the gun on Cedric Gray, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They went early on Michael Barrett in Round 5, Pick 37, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Omar Brown is a better player than pick No. 213 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They paid a round early for Trevor Keegan in the 242nd overall pick, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had cheaper options than Matthew Jones at Round 7, Pick 26, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
