The board owed the Chiefs one, and it paid up: T'Vondre Sweat, the No. 32 name on the board, sitting there at slot 57 like a gift left on the doorstep. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
T'Vondre Sweat at Round 2, Pick 25 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No drama and no debate, Christian Haynes went about where he belonged in No. 89. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tykee Smith. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Connor Colby at the 167th pick is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Jaylin Simpson in pick No. 171; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Ty'Ron Hopper at the 175th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Dallin Holker at slot 203 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
