The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Khyree Jackson slide 77 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Malik Nabers and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 14 they get a true top target, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a building block for the line at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Byron Murphy II is a better player than the 36th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Bo Nix still on the board at slot 46. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let a cornerback like Terrion Arnold reach No. 68 and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 103 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Bucky Irving slipping to the Round 4 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Jalen McMillan in the 118th overall pick, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They robbed the room for Blake Fisher here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Khyree Jackson at Round 6, Pick 7 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Steal is underselling it; Frank Gore Jr. at pick 229 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
