The Commanders ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
Foster at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They will answer for taking DT-EDGE early while quarterback and interior defensive lineman went begging.
The cost of the Stover reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.19
· Pick 19
· JC Latham
· OT
· rank 15
JC Latham in the 19th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.3
· Pick 35
· Jared Verse
· DE-EDGE
· rank 21
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jared Verse at No. 35. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.4
· Pick 36
· Nate Wiggins
· CB
· rank 37
Nate Wiggins at slot 36 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.5
· Pick 37
· Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
· LB
· rank 46
A reach on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 37; the board had better options right there. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.4
· Pick 68
· Maason Smith
· DT-EDGE
· rank 78
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Maason Smith at DT-EDGE with quarterback and interior defensive lineman open.
R3.9
· Pick 73
· Javon Foster
· OT
· rank 54
Javon Foster in the 73rd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.24
· Pick 87
· Zach Frazier
· C
· rank 91
Zach Frazier at No. 87 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.37
· Pick 100
· TreVeyon Henderson
· RB
· rank 84
A slide stopped in pick 100, with TreVeyon Henderson worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.4
· Pick 104
· Brenden Rice
· WR
· rank 113
Brenden Rice in pick No. 104 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.19
· Pick 119
· Cade Stover
· TE
· rank 136
The board had cheaper options than Cade Stover at the 119th pick, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.23

· Cam Hart
· CB
· rank 104
Cam Hart in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.5
· Pick 141
· Antwaun Powell-Ryland
· DL-EDGE
· rank 146
They paid sticker price for Antwaun Powell-Ryland in slot 141, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.7
· Pick 182
· Dorian Singer
· WR
· rank 176
Dorian Singer at Round 6, Pick 7 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.22
· Pick 197
· Ricky Pearsall
· WR
· rank 200
Ricky Pearsall in the 197th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.5
· Pick 225
· Aki Ogunbiyi
· OG
· rank 215
Aki Ogunbiyi is a better player than slot 225 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
