There is reaching, and then there is DeVere Levelston at pick 241. The Dolphins jumped the board by 124 and dared it to prove them wrong.
Landing Jones that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Zach Frazier at pick No. 42 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid up for Christian Mahogany at No. 86 when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached a country mile for Trevor Keegan at slot 123, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Tykee Smith went about where he belonged in pick 158. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They did well to land Isaiah Williams in the 184th pick, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jarrian Jones in No. 188 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They went early on Zion Tupuola-Fetui in slot 198, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A big swing on DeVere Levelston at pick 241, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
