The Commanders lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.
Getting Legette where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If Jacobs pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 20 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
J.J. McCarthy at slot 40 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Adisa Isaac at the 57th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy little value on Kingsley Suamataia in Round 2, Pick 28, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Kiran Amegadjie at par in No. 66, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cooper Beebe in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Khyree Jackson went about where he belonged in pick 77. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Xavier Legette at slot 101 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Braelon Allen at the 103rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A premium they did not need to pay, Johnny Wilson a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Mohamed Kamara is a better player than Round 5, Pick 2 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Curtis Jacobs at No. 181 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Myles Cole. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
