This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Johnny Wilson, the No. 126 name on the board, stolen at the 198th pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They are betting Bills proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
On the needs board they went 2 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 30th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Kingsley Suamataia at No. 55 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Christian Haynes went about where he belonged in pick No. 64. The roster fit checks out.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Brenden Rice in pick 132, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Sione Vaki at par in slot 158, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Keaton Bills. A need, and now a little less of one.
Johnny Wilson in the Round 6 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Josh Proctor at the 241st pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Sheridan Jones in No. 252 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
