You could see the war room lean forward. Jacob Cowing at No. 198 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
Reaching for Nugent left real value on the table behind him. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 31 they get a blindside protector at a price that makes it sweeter.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Christian Mahogany well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Layden Robinson this early at pick 124. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Drake Nugent at the 158th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Taking Ainias Smith in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Circle this one: Jacob Cowing at pick No. 198 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They did well to land Dominique Hampton in slot 241, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
