Thirty-one other rooms let Omar Speights slide, and the Eagles were the ones holding the card at the 243rd pick. Highway robbery.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board fumbled Kamari Lassiter all the way to pick No. 54, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy little value on Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick 58, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Brenden Rice in No. 89 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Mike Sainristil slipping to the 97th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They did well to land Jalyx Hunt in the 137th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Will Shipley at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Taking Luke McCaffrey in Round 5, Pick 27 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
McCallan Castles at pick 172 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A edge rusher of that caliber at the 178th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy bit of business in slot 191, where Roger Rosengarten graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Omar Speights in Round 7, Pick 23 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
