You build a draft on nights like this. Brashard Smith had no business being available in No. 207, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The cost of the Ersery reach is exactly the players who went right after him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Steal is underselling it; Jihaad Campbell at pick No. 61 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Somehow Isaiah Bond was still sitting there in the 89th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Elijah Arroyo at No. 127 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Barrett Carter at Round 5, Pick 11 for years; that is how good the value is. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Circle this one: Brashard Smith at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
A conviction pick on Alijah Clark at pick 238 that the board grades a round light. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They robbed the room for Ben Sauls here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
