You could see the war room lean forward. Nehemiah Pritchett at the Round 5 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Xavier Legette at pick No. 25 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Brian Thomas Jr. at pick 59 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reasonable price with a little left over, McKinnley Jackson in Round 3, Pick 26. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
AJ Barner in the 125th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on James Williams. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Nothing to complain about; Connor Colby went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Nehemiah Pritchett all the way to slot 167, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Ty'Ron Hopper in the 171st pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for T.J. Sanders in the 175th pick, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tahj Brooks is a better player than Round 6, Pick 28 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
