Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Commanders were there to profit. Kyle Monangai, the No. 204 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 7 slot. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The cost of the Barham reach is exactly the players who went right after him. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Azareye'h Thomas. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in the 79th overall pick, where Xavier Restrepo graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Logan Brown at pick 148 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value said wait; Jaishawn Barham in the 207th pick says they were not listening. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Kyle Monangai in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jackson Hawes at No. 250 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
