It is the swing that defines the weekend: Shemar Turner in Round 5, Pick 38, a good 61 spots before the room expected him. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. They went 2 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a ballhawk on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reach for Payton Wilson in the Round 2 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tommy Eichenberg this early at pick 87. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Justin Eboigbe in slot 124; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Shemar Turner at pick No. 174 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Akheem Mesidor at No. 212 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They took Daequan Hardy at par in pick 245, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
