The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Jake Slaughter slide 40 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. They are betting Capehart proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 95th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, DeMonte Capehart well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Bryce Lance still on the board at pick 126. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid a round early for Domani Jackson in No. 160, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Aamil Wagner slid further than he should have, and pick No. 182 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nadame Tucker in Round 6, Pick 20 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing John Michael Gyllenborg in slot 236. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nice patience on Zavion Thomas, who had no business lasting to the Round 7 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Trey Zuhn III slipping to the 255th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
