Green Bay Packers

A sensible, unshowy class lands the Packers a B-.

Nobody else had Tanor Bortolini anywhere near slot 161. The Packers did, by 26 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Taylor-Demerson pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at wide receiver, tight end and other spots.

Getting DeJean where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.9 · Pick 41 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 26
They read the board right and Cooper DeJean was the payoff at pick 41. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.19 · Pick 51 · Kris Jenkins · DL-EDGE · rank 50
No drama and no debate, Kris Jenkins went about where he belonged in pick No. 51. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 52
Good price on Junior Colson in No. 58, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 83
Calen Bullock at the 84th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Dadrion Taylor-Demerson · S · rank 86
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Dadrion Taylor-Demerson adds a safety and leaves wide receiver, tight end and other spots untouched.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 128
The board had cheaper options than Isaac Guerendo at Round 4, Pick 20, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 135
A premium they did not need to pay, Roger Rosengarten a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.25 · Pick 161 · Tanor Bortolini · C · rank 187
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tanor Bortolini this early at the Round 5 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Walter Rouse · OT · rank 163
Walter Rouse at No. 169 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
R5.35 · Pick 171 · Khristian Boyd · DL-EDGE · rank 178
Khristian Boyd at the 171st overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Johnny Dixon · CB · rank 190
A quiet steal in slot 202: Johnny Dixon for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Jordan Magee · LB · rank 222
No edge and no loss on Jordan Magee in Round 6, Pick 44; it is a wash and a sensible one. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Edefuan Ulofoshio · LB · rank 236
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Edefuan Ulofoshio in pick No. 245. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Austin Reed · QB · rank 274
They reached a country mile for Austin Reed at pick 255, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
