The needs board said one thing and the Packers did another, using the Round 4 slot on Ty'Ron Hopper while quarterback, running back and other spots waited. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Hopper pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a downhill hitter at safety, even if it was a touch early.
Nothing to complain about; T.J. Tampa went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, T'Vondre Sweat went about where he belonged in pick 57. It fills a real need, too.
Value with a capital V on Cooper Beebe in the 88th overall pick, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy little value on Gabriel Murphy in the 91st pick, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Tommy Eichenberg in Round 4, Pick 25, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A want over a need in pick No. 135: Ty'Ron Hopper adds a linebacker while quarterback, running back and other spots keeps waiting.
