Some picks age like wine; Eric Gentry at pick No. 256 will need to, sitting 96 spots clear of his grade.
On value alone, Pregnon makes the weekend a net positive. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 18 they get a workhorse for the backfield at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
They barely believed it either: Emmanuel Pregnon still on the board at No. 69. It fills a real need, too.
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Zachariah Branch worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in slot 90: Mike Washington Jr. for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ted Hurst at the 91st overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Devin Moore in pick No. 94; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They jumped the gun on Jalen Farmer, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Sam Hecht in pick No. 106 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Justin Joly in slot 130. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Drew Allar went about where he belonged in No. 151. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taylen Green at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Domani Jackson in pick 182 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
A straight-up fair deal on Jeff Caldwell at the 189th pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
VJ Payne in the 196th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Isaiah Jatta at the 221st pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jaren Kanak in the 226th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Bryce Foster in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Enrique Cruz Jr. in slot 238 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Riley Mahlman this early at pick No. 246. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Eric Gentry at No. 256 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
