The tape said wait; the Packers did not. Austin Reed went at No. 245, a good 41 picks before the board was ready.

Landing Wallace that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 21
In pick No. 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 39
Payton Wilson at Round 2, Pick 9 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 58
By-the-book stuff, T.J. Tampa at the 58th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 62
The board fumbled Jaden Hicks all the way to pick 88, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.33 · Pick 96 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 97
Roger Rosengarten in slot 96 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 117
Value with a capital V on Will Shipley in the 126th pick, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.17 · Pick 153 · Tanor Bortolini · C · rank 154
Tanor Bortolini in slot 153 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 135
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Caedan Wallace in the 169th overall pick, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Dominique Hampton · S · rank 186
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dominique Hampton in the Round 6 slot. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Trey Taylor · S · rank 230
Trey Taylor in No. 219 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Austin Reed · QB · rank 286
This one needs a full-page explanation: Austin Reed in the 245th pick, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Tylan Grable · OT · rank 224
Tylan Grable at pick 255 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
