Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Dolphins spent No. 184 on Drake Nugent, a name most had 26 spots down the list. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 2 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Braden Fiske at No. 55 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Layden Robinson in the 158th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Drake Nugent at the 184th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Julian Pearl at par in pick 198, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Dominique Hampton in the Round 7 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
