The war room fell hard for Desmond Evans, and it showed at the 248th pick: 67 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.

The Jacobs value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 19
Kool-Aid McKinstry in slot 25 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Christian Haynes · OG · rank 77
Christian Haynes at pick 87 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Matt Goncalves · OT · rank 106
A wild overpay on Matt Goncalves in pick No. 88, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 80
Value with a capital V on Christian Mahogany in the 94th overall pick, a genuine coup. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Isaiah Adams · OT · rank 126
Isaiah Adams at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.2 · Pick 177 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 183
Michael Barrett in the 177th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Zion Logue · DL · rank 250
Zion Logue at the Round 6 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 179
Somehow Curtis Jacobs was still sitting there in the 212th overall pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.38 · Pick 213 · Xavier Thomas · DE-EDGE · rank 255
They reached a country mile for Xavier Thomas at slot 213, and the board is aghast. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R7.19 · Pick 239 · Ja'Had Carter · S · rank 252
A premium they did not need to pay, Ja'Had Carter a notch or two before his time. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · DeMonte Capehart · DT · rank 275
This one needs a full-page explanation: DeMonte Capehart in the 245th pick, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.28 · Pick 248 · Desmond Evans · DL-EDGE · rank 315
Desmond Evans at pick No. 248 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
