Miami Dolphins

The jury is out on the Dolphins. For now, C+.

The Dolphins torched the value chart for Layden Robinson, taking him 48 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Bullard falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.

They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.10 · Pick 42 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 61
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kingsley Suamataia in the 42nd pick, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
R2.23 · Pick 55 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 42
A quiet steal in pick 55: Javon Bullard for less than the market said. A minor itch, scratched.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 144
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trevor Keegan. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Layden Robinson · OG · rank 175
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Layden Robinson well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Tanor Bortolini · C · rank 187
Tanor Bortolini at the 158th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.9 · Pick 184 · Cornelius Johnson · WR · rank 188
No drama and no debate, Cornelius Johnson went about where he belonged in the Round 6 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · Johnny Dixon · CB · rank 190
The board had Johnny Dixon higher than the 198th overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
