The war room fell hard for Matthew Jones, and it showed at the Round 7 slot: 34 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jordan Morgan in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A premium they did not need to pay, Michael Hall Jr. a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached a country mile for Theo Johnson at slot 103, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dylan Laube well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ty'Ron Hopper at the 180th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They did well to land Tanor Bortolini in No. 193, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Matthew Jones in pick 231 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
