Reaching for Wagner left real value on the table behind him. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th pick they get a problem off the edge, even if it was a touch early.
Elijah Sarratt at the 58th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Connor Lew at pick 127 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Oscar Delp in pick No. 133, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Aamil Wagner in slot 138 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Kaytron Allen in Round 4, Pick 39; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
