You can draft well and still miss the point. The Eagles did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to edge rusher, which was the need that mattered most. The bottom line is a respectable B.
On value alone, Simpson makes the weekend a net positive. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in the 22nd overall pick with a little surplus value in Kool-Aid McKinstry. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Jermaine Burton went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 54, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Tykee Smith in slot 97 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Braelon Allen in the 160th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took LaDarius Henderson at par in pick 170, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nice patience on Jaylin Simpson, who had no business lasting to Round 5, Pick 35. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good price on Joe Milton III in No. 178, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Steele Chambers. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
