You can draft well and still miss the point. The Commanders did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to wide receiver, which was the need that mattered most. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
If Elliss pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board had cheaper options than Jonah Elliss at the 39th pick, and it noticed. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jordan Morgan at No. 47 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Barrett Carter in pick No. 71 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They took Jason Marshall Jr. at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Adisa Isaac in slot 116, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
