The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Omarion Hampton, the No. 15 name on the board, sitting there at the 250th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
They will need Lacy to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Walter Nolen reach slot 58 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Jake Majors at pick 91 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Nick Emmanwori in the 127th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They talked themselves into Kyren Lacy at the 185th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Donovan Jackson still on the board at Round 6, Pick 27. A need, and now a little less of one.
A running back of that caliber at No. 250 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
