Somebody in the 245th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Ro Torrence, the No. 179 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

They are betting Crum proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.28 · Pick 28 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 28
In pick No. 28 they get an island corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 46
They took Edgerrin Cooper at par in the 41st pick, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 70
They paid up for Cooper Beebe at Round 2, Pick 26 when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Michael Hall Jr. · DT · rank 83
Michael Hall Jr. at pick 88 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 106
Cole Bishop at the Round 3 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 133
By-the-book stuff, Mohamed Kamara at No. 126 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 146
A reach for Mason McCormick in slot 134; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 181
They jumped the gun on Ty'Ron Hopper, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 160
They will replay Tykee Smith at the 202nd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 227
A reach on Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 219; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Ro Torrence · CB · rank 179
You do not let a cornerback like Ro Torrence reach pick 245 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Frank Crum · OT · rank 295
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Frank Crum well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
