It is the swing that defines the weekend: Vincent Anthony Jr. in the Round 5 slot, a good 68 spots before the room expected him. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Caldwell. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 18th overall pick they get a seam-stretching tight end at fair value. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Lee Hunter went about where he belonged in the 45th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nice patience on Treydan Stukes, who had no business lasting to slot 80. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They let Connor Lew come to them and pounced at pick 97. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They liked Keyshaun Elliott enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 115. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Nothing to complain about; Malik Benson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Demond Claiborne at the 162nd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Kage Casey higher than pick 173, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They talked themselves into Vincent Anthony Jr. at No. 174, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
They will replay Jeff Caldwell at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
