Green Bay Packers

A respectable, level-headed haul for the Packers: B-.

The Packers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Troy Fautanu fell into No. 41.

Reaching for Hardy left real value on the table behind him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Adding Joe Giles-Harris by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 26
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 22
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 41st overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 47
Cooper Beebe slid further than he should have, and pick 58 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 85
Nothing to complain about; Jaden Hicks went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 145
They reached into another round for Tommy Eichenberg, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 156
They reached a country mile for Isaiah Davis at the Round 5 slot, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Sione Vaki · S · rank 158
Sione Vaki at pick No. 169 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 198
Curtis Jacobs at slot 202 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 216
A reasonable price with a little left over, Garret Greenfield in Round 6, Pick 44. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Solomon Byrd · DE-EDGE · rank 257
They liked Solomon Byrd enough to skip the value, taking him in the 245th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Daequan Hardy · CB · rank 276
Daequan Hardy at slot 255 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
