The Cowboys torched the value chart for Gerry Bohanon, taking him 189 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
The Carter steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get juice off the edge. More want than need.
Alfred Collins in the Round 2 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Charles Grant at Round 3, Pick 9 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Dylan Fairchild at the 78th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
TreVeyon Henderson in No. 100 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy bit of business in pick 109, where Elic Ayomanor graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nicholas Singleton at the 112th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nice patience on Smael Mondon Jr., who had no business lasting to pick 114. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jake Majors at pick No. 137 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached a country mile for Dont'e Thornton Jr. at slot 141, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Mason Taylor at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Oronde Gadsden II in the 168th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Raheim Sanders was still sitting there in No. 170, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Barrett Carter in Round 5, Pick 34 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Cody Simon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
You do not let a linebacker like Harold Perkins Jr. reach Round 6, Pick 34 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached into another round for Gerry Bohanon, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
