They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: J.J. Weaver, 116 picks early at pick 236.
The Higgins steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. They chose more darts over a bigger single swing.
So much rides on Landon Jackson that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside, even if it was a touch early.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Aireontae Ersery. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cade Klubnik in pick 54, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board fumbled T.J. Sanders all the way to the 68th pick, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
A wild overpay on Hollin Pierce in No. 88, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on DeMonte Capehart in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jalen Catalon at slot 149 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They talked themselves into Gentry Williams at pick 169, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A premium they did not need to pay, Theo Wease Jr. a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jay Higgins in the 171st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Ja'Quinden Jackson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached a country mile for Justin Walley at pick No. 209, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
You do not let a linebacker like Jaishawn Barham reach the 219th overall pick and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steven Parker at Round 7, Pick 21 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
J.J. Weaver at slot 236 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Omari Thomas at the 237th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Woody Marks was still sitting there in No. 244, and they pounced on premier running back value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Luke Lachey at the Round 7 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
