Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Commanders, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Every board in the league had Overton lower, and that gap is the story.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Chris Brazzell II at No. 28 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, LT Overton in pick 47 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Anthony Hill Jr. in pick No. 65 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No edge and no loss on Elijah Sarratt in slot 71; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jalon Kilgore in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board fumbled Zakee Wheatley all the way to the 113th pick, and they scooped it up. A minor itch, scratched.
No drama and no debate, Julian Neal went about where he belonged in pick No. 114. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Logan Jones was still sitting there in the 122nd overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chris McClellan. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Isaiah World in pick 153. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Nate Boerkircher in slot 160, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kaelon Black well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on Riley Nowakowski at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
