The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched LaDarius Henderson slide 40 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.
They are betting Bishop proves the room right and everyone else wrong. It is not that Bishop is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a rangy last line of defense, reach and all. More want than need.
A reach on Edgerrin Cooper in pick 41; the board had better options right there. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A wild overpay on Christian Mahogany in No. 57, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value said wait; Darius Robinson in pick No. 88 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A curious use of the 91st overall pick. Cornerback, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Cole Bishop did not.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Tommy Eichenberg in the Round 4 slot leaves cornerback, quarterback and other spots for later.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cedric Gray at linebacker with cornerback, quarterback and other spots open.
They will replay LaDarius Henderson at the 203rd pick for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
Rasheen Ali at No. 217 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Blake Watson at the 219th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Demani Richardson at par in pick No. 246, which is nothing to complain about. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
