Miami Dolphins

A sensible, unshowy class lands the Dolphins a B-.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Dolphins started one anyway for Caden Curry, 35 picks ahead of schedule. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

However the rest shakes out, Scott at that price is a win they earned. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Scott pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still on the board.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.28 · Pick 28 · Dillon Thieneman · S · rank 34
In No. 28 they get a two-high chess piece at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
R1.30 · Pick 30 · Omar Cooper Jr. · WR · rank 55
In slot 30 they get a matchup problem out wide, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Emmanuel Pregnon · OG · rank 39
No drama and no debate, Emmanuel Pregnon went about where he belonged in the 38th pick. It fills a real need, too.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · D'Angelo Ponds · CB · rank 47
By-the-book stuff, D'Angelo Ponds at pick 43 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Jacob Rodriguez · LB · rank 74
No edge and no loss on Jacob Rodriguez in Round 3, Pick 5; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Eli Stowers · TE · rank 52
They robbed the room for Eli Stowers here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Keionte Scott · CB · rank 61
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Keionte Scott while clear needs at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat open.
R3.26 · Pick 90 · Caden Curry · DE-EDGE · rank 125
They reached a country mile for Caden Curry at the 90th pick, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.31 · Pick 95 · Bryce Lance · WR · rank 122
Value said wait; Bryce Lance in No. 95 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Bishop Fitzgerald · S · rank 117
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending slot 130 on Bishop Fitzgerald with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved.
R5.11 · Pick 151 · Beau Stephens · OG · rank 153
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Beau Stephens. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.27 · Pick 167 · Kaleb Elarms-Orr · LB · rank 174
Kaleb Elarms-Orr at pick 167 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.31 · Pick 171 · Matt Gulbin · C · rank 178
Matt Gulbin at pick No. 171 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.32 · Pick 172 · Jadon Canady · CB · rank 206
They talked themselves into Jadon Canady at Round 5, Pick 32, and the board did not agree. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Jalen Huskey · S · rank 235
Jalen Huskey at the 227th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
