Las Vegas Raiders

Quarterback settled, Mendoza in the fold, and a B- for the Raiders.

Start where it matters. The Raiders took Fernando Mendoza to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Orange. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Job largely done: cornerback settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.1 · Pick 1 · Fernando Mendoza · QB · rank 4
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Chris Johnson · CB · rank 32
A clean, defensible pick in slot 36 with a little surplus value in Chris Johnson. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Omar Cooper Jr. · WR · rank 55
A slide stopped in No. 67, with Omar Cooper Jr. worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Domonique Orange · DT · rank 77
The board fumbled Domonique Orange all the way to pick 102, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.17 · Pick 117 · Genesis Smith · S · rank 97
A safety of that caliber at the 117th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Joe Royer · TE · rank 120
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Joe Royer at the 131st overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Bryce Lance · WR · rank 122
Value with a capital V on Bryce Lance in the Round 4 slot, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.35 · Pick 175 · Aamil Wagner · OT · rank 168
They did well to land Aamil Wagner in pick No. 175, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.1 · Pick 182 · Seth McGowan · RB · rank 176
Good price on Seth McGowan in pick No. 182, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
R6.4 · Pick 185 · Taylen Green · QB · rank 184
They took Taylen Green at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.27 · Pick 208 · Jeremiah Wright · OG · rank 209
Jeremiah Wright at Round 6, Pick 27 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.3 · Pick 219 · Aiden Fisher · LB · rank 219
Aiden Fisher at the 219th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
