The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Commanders reached some 54 spots for Rasheen Ali, and value like that does not grow back. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jacobs.
They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Troy Fautanu at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach for Jordan Morgan in the 37th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Jack Sawyer in pick 68; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Sedrick Van Pran went about where he belonged in pick No. 71. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach on J. Michael Sturdivant in Round 4, Pick 14; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Mike Sainristil in No. 151 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Curtis Jacobs all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Rasheen Ali. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
