There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Dolphins started one anyway for Eric Gentry, 132 picks ahead of schedule.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Scott at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 8 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line, outstanding value to boot.
Blake Miller at the 43rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Jake Slaughter in pick No. 75 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ted Hurst in the 76th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Keionte Scott still on the board at No. 87. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No drama and no debate, Devin Moore went about where he belonged in pick 90. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Mike Washington Jr. slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the running back. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Michael Trigg in pick No. 94, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
You do not let a tight end like Sam Roush reach slot 112 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Mason Reiger at No. 113 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They jumped the gun on Isaiah World, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A real head-scratcher, Drew Allar in the 130th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Zxavian Harris, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A big swing on Demond Claiborne at pick 141, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They talked themselves into Domani Jackson at No. 151, and the board did not agree. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Value said wait; Jeff Caldwell in the 168th pick says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taylen Green at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Eric Gentry well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Lander Barton in pick 227 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Isaiah Jatta in Round 7, Pick 22 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Travis Burke. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Micah Morris at pick No. 243 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
