The Eric Gentry pick is the one that will follow the Dolphins into the fall. They took him 103 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
The Kilgore value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The Moore pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Anthony Hill Jr. in pick No. 41 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jake Slaughter slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 31 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value with a capital V on Keionte Scott in the 72nd overall pick, a genuine coup. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jacob Rodriguez in slot 87 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Bryce Lance at par in No. 92, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Devin Moore adds a cornerback and leaves edge rusher untouched.
They paid up for Michael Trigg at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Keylan Rutledge at pick No. 111 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ja'Kobi Lane at Round 4, Pick 12 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Jalon Kilgore in the 125th pick leaves edge rusher for later.
They talked themselves into Drew Allar at No. 130, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
DeMonte Capehart in pick 131 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They did well to land Dametrious Crownover in the 151st overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Demond Claiborne at slot 160 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
They jumped the gun on Domani Jackson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Taylen Green at pick 167 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A slide stopped in the 171st overall pick, with Marlin Klein worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jeff Caldwell. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ephesians Prysock in Round 6, Pick 15 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
By-the-book stuff, Dallen Bentley at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Robert Spears-Jennings at No. 202 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Lander Barton in slot 221 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Xavier Nwankpa at the 227th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They reached a country mile for Isaiah Jatta at slot 238, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
