The Dolphins put a flag in the ground for Eric Gentry, 125 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
The Roush value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. With interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at the 62nd pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Keionte Scott in No. 75. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Ted Hurst at pick No. 77 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Devin Moore adds a cornerback and leaves interior defensive lineman untouched.
Value said wait; Michael Trigg in Round 3, Pick 27 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Keylan Rutledge at slot 94 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Mason Reiger this early at the 111th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Sam Roush in slot 112 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Isaiah World in pick 116 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Dametrious Crownover in Round 4, Pick 30 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Drew Allar in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had cheaper options than Demond Claiborne at pick No. 152, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A real head-scratcher, Domani Jackson in the 155th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They reached into another round for Jeff Caldwell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach on Ephesians Prysock in the 182nd overall pick; the board had better options right there. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Lander Barton in Round 7, Pick 4 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Eric Gentry in pick 227 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Travis Burke at the 229th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
